The Blue Bag Water Innovation Award is an opportunity to not only learn more about water resource management, but also get the chance to make a real difference in your community. Study at a reputed university in Europe, and gain work experience with Mercy Corps Indonesia.

Show your skills within water resource management, innovate a solution for Jakarta and you might start your master’s programme at Lund University in Sweden within a year.

First Prize

  • Full tuition fee waiver for the two-year Master’s Programme in Water Resource Engineering at Lund University in Sweden.
  • Return flights to Sweden and living allowance for two years.
  • Internship with Mercy Corps Indonesia documenting the IKEA Blue Bag Project during your studies.
  • Opportunity to work on your Master’s thesis with Mercy Corps Indonesia.
  • University Admissions application fee waiver.

The prize package is worth approximately 48,000 EURO.


All students who finalize the first step in the competition and submit an online application will receive a digital certificate via email.
Individual results can also be viewed on the students’ personal 'AwardsCV' at Studentcompetitions.com.

Second and Third Prize

  • 25% tuition fee waiver for the two-year Master’s Programme in Water Resource Engineering at Lund University in Sweden.
  • Internship with Mercy Corps Indonesia documenting the IKEA Blue Bag Project during your studies.
  • Recommendation letter from Lund University if applying for a Lund University Global Scholarship.
  • University Admissions application fee waiver.

The Final Event

The top three finalists will be invited to travel to Jakarta for the prize ceremony and get to know the people of Mercy Corps Indonesia and IKEA Indonesia! A great opportunity to network with the people working with the IKEA Blue Bag Project in Indonesia.

The winner will be announced during the ceremony in January, 2015.
Domestic travel and accommodation expenses is covered for all three finalists by IKEA Indonesia.
